As well as providing larger scale support for rescues Burns will
occasionally offer to help with an individual dog in a rescue’s care.
These are dogs that, for one reason or another, require particular
help which will put extra strain on the rescue’s resources. Each case
is taken on its own merit and our level of support can vary. Here
are just three of the special dogs we have helped during thelast
year.
“Faith” from HOPE Rescue
In October 2009 we received an email from HOPE Rescue in South Wales
telling us about a six month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier bitch
they had taken in from Newport Dog Pound. This poor little soul
had such terrible skin problems that they couldn’t even tell what
colour she was! As skin conditions can often be linked to dietary
problems we agreed to provide Faith with food and treats until she
was rehomed. Two months later she was a different dog – her coat
had grown back and she was a happy puppy once again. In her search
for a new home Faith appeared in magazines and on TV and this week
she finally found her forever home. To find out more about HOPE
Rescue please visit www.hoperescue.org.uk
“Sadie” from Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue
At the beginning of 2009 we had a call from EGLR asking for help with
a four year old lurcher who had been bereaved. Unusually for a lurcher
she was clinically obese and had a body weight of over 40kg (making
her more than 10kg overweight). We
agreed to provide her food until she could be rehomed Sadie was
very fortunate and found a new home within a couple of months and
her new owners have kept in touch with us to let us know how she
is doing. With careful feeding and exercise she took just fifteen
weeks to reach her target weight of 31kg and is now enjoying a new
lease of life in her new home.

Many thanks to Sadie’s new owner, Aster, for the photo and updates.
“Troy” from Cane Corso and Molosser Rescue
Magnificent Troy is a Cane Corso cross who had been through the Mayhew
and Battersea before being fostered by this specialist rescue. He
was fit and healthy but HUGE (his fosterer described his cuddles
as being like a hug from a Sea Lion) and they were struggling with
the cost of feeding him. We agreed to provide food for him until
he was rehomed. Troy thrived on Burns but it didn’t stop him trying
to supplement his diet with the old mitten or slipper! To describe
him as a character is a bit of an understatement and this gentle
giant quickly found a new home.
