Keeping of free range chickens is becoming so popular that it is becoming difficult to get pullets. I contacted a number of suppliers around the country, most of whom didn’t have any. I was given December, January and even March as the earliest possible dates. I managed to get 500 from each of two suppliers in England and (surprise) 2000 from someone in Pembrokeshire for delivery in October so are sorted. We now need to build 20 sheds in 16 weeks.
Yesterday, Baroness ? (I didn’t catch her name) was interviewed on Radio 4’s Today programme about her possibly dodgy expenses claim. “The rules need to be very clear and strict” she wailed. Clearly she doesn’t trust herself to do the right thing.
In all the furore about “flipping” to avoid Capital Gains Tax no one seems to question the laxity of a system which allows owners of second homes to choose which house to nominate as a main residence. Even the car scrappage scheme requires you to own the scrap car for a number of months.
The new horse racecourse at Ffoslas near here opens today and it is a sell-out. It is the first new track in the UK in over 80 years. When they are older I’ll be able to tell my grandchildren that I used to be the vet at Ffoslas. I won’t let on that that was when Ffoslas was a farm, before it became an open cast mine, before it became a racecourse.
Yesterday morning I called with a friend for an early morning cup of tea. His daughter leaned out the upstairs window and called “He’s on the toilet. [Pause] I don’t know what he’s doing.” This is a case for the bottom inspectors from Viz magazine.
