New Year; Noah’s Ark

One hour into the New Year Tegwen, my wife fell down the front step at Hamish’s house and fractured her patella (kneecap). I missed the excitement as I was home in bed with flu.
Happy New Year!
We couldn’t get her out of the house to go to A&E so we called the ambulance who arrived in 15 minutes although it wasn’t an emergency. She had the leg plastered to see her over the weekend and today she’s having the fracture wired. The NHS gets a lot of criticism but in my view we get a great service. The attack dogs of the Daily Mail may feature examples of patients who are not well served and complain about the cost but you can’t have a five star service without paying for it somehow.

Saturday’s Guardian had an article about a tablet found in the Middle East which depicts Noah’s Ark as being circular in shape like a coracle rather than being a long, pointy shape. This would have meant that the animals walked round in circles.

If you want to know what life was really like in the Ark you should read the first chapter of “A History of the World in 10 & 1/2 Chapters” by Julian Barnes. The story is told from the point of view of one of the animals but I won’t tell you which one but I will say that this species of animal wasn’t supposed to be on board at all.
